The Dear Evan Hansen sculpture is part of a series of a sculpture series by North Carolina artist Rick Lazes. These figurative works are composed of acrylic panels that are bent using a proprietary heat process, then hand painted with acrylic paint.
Lazes figurative series is inspired by the partially destroyed sculptures from antiquity which during centuries of political censorship, countless sculptural masterpieces were tragically rendered headless. During Lazes study of these ancient sculptures, he marveled at the depth of expression and emotion conveyed exclusively through the statue’s headless bodies. It is appropriate that Lazes has now down an interpretation of a contemporary icon, Evan Hansen employing this same headless technique.
Artist, Inventor and Entrepreneur- Rick’s professional career includes his work as a film director and concert promoter. He has produced hundreds of concerts in 30 states, live music festivals and TV shows for Amazon Prime, HBO and Cinemax.
Fresh off the success of his critically acclaimed documentary, which is currently airing on Amazon Prime, Lennox Lewis: The Untold Story, Rick has produced concerts and television specials starring Ray Charles, Bob Dylan, The Black Crowes, Foo Fighters, Carlos Santana, Lenny Kravitz, BB King, and Willie Nelson. Lazes is currently producing a Broadway show inspired by the life of Alexander McQueen titled "In His Own Words” directed by Jay Sheib and a feature-length documentary, Short, Blond and Pretty, about the transitioning of boxing manager Frank Maloney into Kellie Maloney.
Rick works at the Art Factory in Charlotte, NC along with fellow artists Paul Veto and Dana Gingras
